Paleo Dos and Don'ts

Starting the Paleo Diet: Dos and Don’ts

One thing to keep in mind: the paleo diet isn’t meant to be a quick fix. It is a way of eating that is sustainable for the long haul. That being said, you still have to try the diet to make sure it fits into your lifestyle and that you actually like it! Here are a few tips to get started:

🗹 Do: put together paleo meal plans and start small. A paleo 7-day meal plan is easy to create!
🗹 Do: stock your pantry and fridge full of paleo-friendly foods. Fill your shopping cart with fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, nuts, and seeds. Steer clear of processed foods and ditch the dairy and grains.
🗹 Do: eat things you like! Pick out 7-10 recipes that appeal to you and try them all. The more options you have, the more satisfied you’ll be.

🗷 Don't: plan to eat out for the first week. Give yourself a solid 7 days to get used to the new rules and requirements of the paleo diet.
🗷 Don't: keep temptations around. Throw out the chips, cookies, sugary treats, dairy, and grains. If you don’t have it in your house, you won’t eat it.
🗷 Don't: be too hard on yourself if you slip up. Remember, this is all new to your body and your mind. Eating one cookie won’t ruin everything! Just accept it, be aware of how you feel both physically and mentally and move on.

The Next Step: the Paleo 30-Day Challenge and Beyond

After you’ve finished one week of paleo, commit yourself to 3 more weeks and take the paleo 30-day challenge! They say it takes 3 weeks to make a habit, so if you can get through this, you’re well on your way to a new paleo lifestyle. A paleo 30-day reset is a fantastic way to cleanse and clear your body.

One of the brilliant things about the paleo diet is there is no need to count calories or macros (carbs, fats, protein) – unless you want to, of course. Feel free to adhere to a paleo 1200 calorie meal plan or a paleo 1500 calorie plan. Be sure to measure your portions so you’re getting an accurate calorie count. Again, there is no need to consider how many grams of carbohydrates, fats, or proteins you are consuming. Just make sure you are eating as many whole foods as possible, and keep your diet balanced.
